Welcome to the Stenhouse Primary School web site.

The Positive Pupil Programme

We have an extremely successful pupil programme in operation at Stenhouse which emphasises positive behaviour and attitudes. The ultimate aims are to develop pupils' self discipline by encouraging individuals to take more responsibility for their own actions and to ensure that each individual can maximise opportunities for learning. Fundamentally, there are rewards for individual and collective positive behaviour and consequences for negative behaviour.

Simple school rules have been established to ensure that positive learning environments, the physical safety of pupils, moral and social education and school property are all maintained. These rules are consistently applied throughout the school and all children should know what is and what is not acceptable behaviour in different areas of the school.

Parent support has been, and will continue to be, fundamental to the success of our programme. A significant feature is that parents are informed at an early stage if children break the rules, normally by a letter or phone call home. Parental advice and support is welcomed in deciding on an appropriate punishment. Similarly, parents are informed more frequently if children are behaving and working well, usually by the sending home of letters or certificates. Parental support in showing children that these rewards are valued is fundamental.

Bullying

Staff at Stenhouse play an active role in minimising bullying. To this end we positively encourage children to inform an adult of bullying incidents. These are thoroughly investigated and immediately dealt with. Parents are informed of outcomes. Experience shows that problems are simpler to deal with at an early stage.

At all times parents are asked to co-operate with the school in encouraging careful, thoughtful and considerate behaviour in and around the school.
